Product Description Dreaming of Sailing the Seas? Buy THIS Book First! You’ll feel like you are on YOUR WORLD CRUISE in this overview book for sailing the world, the adventure of a Lifetime. In this non-fiction book there is enough factual information and detail for readers contemplating their own worldwide sailing adventure. Easy to read, well organized, and entertaining. At the end of reading this book, one could ask,“Do you want to take this trip?” The emphatic answer is, “YES! Let the voyage begin!” The authors, Captain Charlie Simon and his wife, Cathy, sailed away on Celebrate, a Taswell 58, leaving Rodney Bay, St. Lucia, West Indies on January 10, 2014 and completing their world circumnavigation 15 months later upon returning to St. Lucia in the Caribbean on April 11, 2016. Ports detailed along the way include the Panama Canal transit, a memorable start to the reader's journey. Many aerial/satellite port diagrams, local photos, and excerpts from the ship's blog tell readers what to expect as the route continues to the Galapagos Islands, French Polynesia, Fiji and other islands across the South Pacific. The Simon's also chronicle their stops at Australia, Bali and passing through some rough weather in the Indian Ocean, then going on to South Africa, and having benign conditions crossing the South Atlantic to Brazil and back to the Caribbean. You get a genuine feel for what it is like to sail the world! Colorful stories and photographs from the ports of entry get the reader enthusiastic and build up a “Let's do this!” mind-set and the encouraging positive tone should inspire readers. There are many featured Google Earth satellite maps and up-to-date website links. 172 pages, full color, 8.5x11, 154 Color pictures, 18 maps, 49 satellite/aerial route diagrams, index, and bibliography. Review From Kirkus Reviews: This is the volume that the authors wished they had before setting off on their around-the-world sailing adventure. It is, in essence, a way of inspiring and preparing other sailors to make a journey that many would consider overly daunting. The approach is positive from the outset...oozes enthusiasm throughout. But it also wastes no time in tackling the realities of an around-the-world trip in comparison to that of a "day sail on the bay": rougher conditions, longer passages, and forays at night and farther from shore, among other new challenges. The opening eight pages offer a useful to-do list that covers selecting a route; honing certain skills, such as anchoring technique and electronic seamanship; organizing food and provisioning; and deciding whether to join a cruising rally. This is solid, avuncular advice, set out in a clear, accessible manner. The guide then offers a breakdown of the major ports of call, including detailed maps and color photography. ...valuable nuggets of information that could prove lifesaving, such as "Beware of the risk of saltwater crocodiles ('salties'), which frequently attack and kill people...The remainder of the guide provides an itinerary sample and discusses choosing a route, ...understanding the dangers of piracy, and setting crew expectations. It finishes with suggested cruising guides and charts. The authors employ a buoyant and friendly writing style, often bordering on folksy: "As you can see, the enormous variety of experiences, the breathtaking vistas, and the wonder of wildlife keep us cruising." This, however, does not mean that the prose should not be taken seriously, as it remains characterful, comprehensive, and professional. Holding the power to excite and inform, this densely packed and colorful book should prove inspirational for anyone with an interest in sailing and world travel. A practical, accessible, and fun guide to planning the sailing adventure of a lifetime. From the Author From Charlie: We both learned so much on the world trip that we felt the need to encourageothers--hence this book. We wish you happy sailing and hope you will hav
